On-Site Staff Development | Cathryn Berger Kaye, M.A., is a former classroom teacher and an international education consultant. She works with state departments of education, university faculty and students, school districts, and classroom teachers on a variety of education issues such as service learning, literacy, civic responsibility, student leadership, and respectful school communities. She is the author of several service learning books: The Complete Guide to Service Learning: Proven, Practical Ways to Engage Students in Civic Responsibility, Academic Curriculum & Social Action, Service Learning for Kids Series: Hunger and Homelessness, Helping Others to Read and Succeed, and Parent Involvement in Service Learning. She has developed a new research-based program aimed at improving literacy confidence and competencies for middle school students, Strategies for Success with Literacy: A Learning Curriculum that Serves, implemented with more than 40,000 Los Angeles Unified middle school students. This program integrates literacy with character education and civic engagement. Cathryn is known for her engaging keynotes and workshops, always custom-fit to the target audience.
