Teacher Leaders: Middle School Mathematics Classrooms
Abstract
This study examined the characteristics and behaviors of teacher leaders in middle school mathematics classrooms. In addition to characteristics and behaviors, the findings identified instructional strategies, assessment methods, and technology being used by the teacher leaders. Four classroom interactions were grouped: questioning, commenting, explaining, and listening. These are introduced as the Quadad Cycle Model. The term teacher leaders is defined. Teacher leaders are selfless communicators, mentors, and facilitators. They are avid listeners who share ideas, materials, or new teaching concepts to help all the participants of the school community, including students parents, staff, school's administrators, and fellow teachers. They are considered teacher leaders because of their positive, encouraging, and caring nature.
